D-Day

6th June 1944

Normandy, France

As far back as I can possibly imagine, I have had an interest in the D-day Landings. In November 1998 I fulfilled my ambition and went to Normandy. Using Brittany Ferries from Portsmouth to Caen (Ouistreham). www.brittany-ferries.com

Firstly there is finding a Hotel. Having a few French friends I was advised to try out the Formula 1 chain of overnight stay rooms. The price is around £15.00 per night per room, for an extra £2.00 you can have breakfast. The room has a double bed and a single bed. Complete with a wash basin, T.V. and alarm clock. The shower and toilets are about 3 meters away from the room which you share (individual cubicles) with other guests. Don't worry though, as there is plenty of them to go round. Even for £15.00 I could not believe the condition of the complex. Everything was spotless not a thing out of place. Located about 10 mins walk from the Memorial Museum and only about 10 mins drive from the center of Caen, it is great value for money. For more information call +33 (0) 231 751 531.
